Faith Leaders gather at RAF Boulmer to open faith prayer rooms
By The Revd (Sqn Ldr) David C Haslam
On Tuesday, 21 May World Faith Leaders gathered at RAF Boulmer to open both a Christian Reflection and Meditation Room and a World Faith Prayer Room. The ribbons to open the rooms were cut jointly by Newcastle Faith Leaders secretary Kersi Fanibunda and the United Reformed Church Northern Synod Moderator Dave Herbert.
Each gave thoughtful words and reflections for the event. The event comprised of a welcome to the Station and its welfare and chaplaincy facility, a walking tour of the station accommodation living, Messing, socialising and sporting facilities. The Station Commander Group Captain K Cowieson gave a multi media presentation and questions sessions the role and work of the station in its defence of UK airspace. Following lunch, guests had a tour of the station’s bunker and its Control and Reporting Centre where they saw the operations room in action. The day ended by a signing of the visitors book in Station Headquarters. United Reformed Church Minister and Station Chaplain Revd (Sqn Ldr) David C Haslam, who organised the event, said “it was good to receive members of world faiths onto the station; share with them something of our RAF personnel’s working and living environment and demonstrate how the force welcomes and supports all into its ranks and structures throughout their careers.”
